I Love Cheap Thrills

So I don’t know about you, but I am broke as a joke after a ton of summer adventures (I mean, I was broke as a joke before too – but this time it’s a less funny joke…more like a joke delivered by a sad clown, if you will.) Due to my low bank account balance but high desire to stay/get more fit – I started researching how to eat/make Healthy Food on a budget and thought you might be interested as well:

TLDR: Buy Eggs, Chicken Breast, Canned Salmon/Tuna, Almonds, Low-Fat Cottage Cheese, Protein Powder, Avocado, Oats, Black Beans, Brown Rice, Quinoa, Fruit, Sweet Potato

Now sure, I don’t eat all that stuff – but maybe YOU do, and who am I to judge? Nobody.. I’m just providing us with information.

I do like to make fast, cheap, easy food – but I promise to stay away from fake shit 🙂

I was at Sweat yesterday and our yogi leader, Brittny, shared an interesting memory/lesson learned from one of her favorite teachers in India. I can’t remember his name, and it doesn’t matter to the story so I’m not even going to make one up, like Bob or Jim (I’m super creative). The story per my recollection: Brittny was having a full on tantrum, hysterical sobbing and self-righteousness, and Teacher said to her, “You have every right to feel like this. You can self-indulge as long as you like, it is everyone’s right. But you also have the right to stop and feel grateful for what you have, who you are as a human being.”

I shall try to remember Teacher’s words the next time I am sucked down the self-pity rabbit hole.

Lastly, for this Random Thoughts Wednesday – I am heading to a wedding in a couple of weeks and thought: Can I really tone up a bit in just two weeks? TO THE INTERWEBS!

Now, the writer has a crazy awesome trainer and I do not, BUT I think I can apply some of her situation to my own – no alcohol, up my protein and lower my refined carb intake, drink tons of water, and push myself to the edge in my workouts.

We’ll see, I’ll try to remember to let you know 😉

Honey Moon on Friday the 13th. aka: best night ever

I’m strangely excited to see this Honey, or Strawberry, Moon. I’m not expecting it to be life changing or anything but I bet it’ll look like this, exactly:

The bank looks a little different than my local beach but I’m expecting owls, dolphins, scarecrows, cats, and couples to show themselves. Santa Monica beach is gonna be crazy. It is a full moon on Friday the 13th after all 😉

Moving on — I’m excited to do a Suja Juice cleanse this weekend! They were supposed to deliver to my work today but shipped to my billing address/home instead and that’s a little disappointing because no one will be there until 6 or so. So they’ve been just sitting outside my door since 10am, tempting people to take them. Delicious juices, no one can deny you. 

Thankfully they have the best customer service and they’re sending me another shipment tomorrow. 

I’ll let you know how it goes – I’m looking forward to a little cleanse before I head to the Beachbody Summit on Thursday! I love to try new things, and if you put your products on sale I’m very likely to take advantage 🙂

Also on sale was Les Mills Combat during the Beachbody Summer Sale last weekend — definitely got that and I’ll be starting the program on Monday June 23rd. Very pumped for that too!

Post-Cleanse

All right! So tomorrow it’s back to life, back to reality (I always get that song in my head after vacation…) – and I’ll be starting P90X3! Very exciting, I haven’t decided if I’ll post daily about it or just twice a week, we shall see – I’m sure it will vary. 

But back to the cleanse: I feel really good and I’ve lost 3lbs! I definitely needed that after all the holiday overindulging. I’m pretty confident that the few pounds will stay off as those were the 3 gained over Christmas and NYE 🙂 

I never felt too bad, except once yesterday but that was more because my errands took MUCH longer than I expected (Two hours to trim my hair!? Bonkers).

I did wake up with a little bit of a headache this morning, but I made this smoothie recipe I picked up from one of my favorite blogs http://rabbitfoodformybunnyteeth.com and I feel fantastic now. I didn’t drink enough water yesterday honestly so dehydration was most likely the culprit. Oh, here’s the smoothie recipe (serves 2, I made some for my roommate as well):

3 small oranges, 1 large banana, 2 big handfuls of spinach, a cup of ice and a half a cup of water. If you have a Vitamix you don’t need the water but my Magic Bullet was struggling with the double serving and zero water. Oh I also squeezed half a lime in there, but I am a citrus fiend 🙂

Well I’m off to the farmer’s market, a walk on the beach, and then a hike later this afternoon. I’m happy Sunday Fitday has replaced Sunday Funday (read: big brunch and lots of mimosas).

Shakeology Cleanse Check In

So I’m on Day Two of the Shakeology cleanse and I feel good — The Vegan Chocolate and Tropical Strawberry shakes have been pairing well with my blue, black, and strawberries and I had the Farmer’s Salad at Urth Caffe last night (modifications: no cheese, dressing or bread and I subbed raw pine nuts for the glazed pecans – the dressing thing is just because I didn’t want any, I’m sure I could have had a balsamic vin instead of the peppercorn!) for dinner. I’ve had a banana each day as well, and tons of water — though I have had a cup of black coffee each morning so I have been cheating a tiny bit!

I went on a hike this morning and had plenty of energy – but we’ll see what I’m up for tomorrow! I’ll leave you with a pic of one of my favorite signs 🙂 Even if at this distance it appears I’m taking a photo of that camper…or the Hostel..haha

Goodbye 2013

I can not believe it’s the last day of the year already. I’m only 31- if years are flying by so quickly now, I can’t imagine how I’ll feel at 80!

It was a good year: lots of fun times and adventures with fantastic friends, made some difficult but necessary changes to my life, and have lined up some new and exciting possibilities for the future.

Can’t wait to see what 2014 brings.

I don’t have my ’14 resolutions figured out, because I tend to fail at the “This year I’ll do this and this” type statements, so I think I’ll just take it one month at a time. My January will be alcohol, gluten, and animal product free. I was going to give up caffeine as well but COME ON! I need one vice 😉

I need a cleanse after nearly two months of work and personal holiday parties…this should do it!
